VIRABAN Aciclovir 5% Cream prevents and treats cold sores (Herpes simplex). It contains an antiviral aciclovir for treatment of the Herpes viral infection and prevents it from spreading.
Viraban can also help shorten the healing time of cold sores already visible. You should start treatment as soon as you feel the tingling that indicates a cold sore is developing.
Apply a thin layer of Viraban ointment to the affected area(s), five times a day for five days. Use Viraban ointment as soon as the first symptoms of a cold sore appear, such as burning, tingling or itching.
It is important to continue using Viraban ointment for the full five days, even if your symptoms begin to clear up after a few days.
- Do not use on mucous membranes, eyes, inside mouth or vagina. Genital herpes requires urgent medical attention.
- Viraban ointment can occasionally cause mild pain, drying, flaking, burning or stinging at the area where it is applied. These side effects are usually mild.
Note: Cold sores are infectious! Do not allow others to touch your cold sore, wash hands regularly, and don’t share towels.
